Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common questions and answers about the BC STL Junior Football Program.

Is football experience required?

No previous football playing experience is required. Our goal is to offer middle school athletes from Clayton and Brentwood school districts the chance to learn football fundamentals. They will also learn teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. We promote physical fitness and a sense of community. We will teach your child everything they need to know to be successful. We only require regular attendance, a positive attitude, and willingness to work hard.

What equipment do we need to provide?

Players are responsible for shoes/cleats, mouthpiece and white football pants. All other equipment will be provided by the cooperating school districts. Many of our players choose to purchase individualized equipment. Items like receiver gloves, undershirts, and girdles are popular choices. However, this is completely optional.

How many levels of play will there be?

Our goal is to grow this into a 5th through 8th grade organization, with a full schedule of games for each grade level. All grade levels will practice together, however, we will NOT put any of our athletes in a position where they are not set up for success. We are committing to league play for the 7th and 8th graders. Depending on #s of younger athletes we will look to schedule games accordingly.

Who will we be playing games against and how many games will we have?

We have joined the Park-Rock league and will have a full schedule of games for a 7th and 8th grade team. Depending on the number of 5th and 6th graders we will look to schedule games for this group as well.

What is the upcoming schedule of practices, games, etc?

Short answer – please visit our Events Page.

We understand that our students have many obligations and commitments over the summer. Therefore, we understand when players, particularly new players, can’t attend every activity.
Having said that, here’s a summary of upcoming activities:

  • Pad Pickup: Saturday, August 2nd, 1 – 5pm at Brentwood High School
  • Week 1 Practices: August 4th – 8th, 5 – 7pm at Clayton High School
  • Week 2 Practices: August 11th – 15th, 5 – 7pm at Brentwood High School
  • On-going Practice Schedule: The goal is to alternate weeks between Clayton and Brentwood fields. However, we will have to be flexible with scheduling. High School activities will take precedent. Plan is to hold practices Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 6 – 8pm. We will use the website calendar and TeamBot to facilitate communications.

What are the expectations for practices during the school year?

Practices are extremely important for our athletes to learn the game, get used to contact and understand our playbook. We recognize that there are competing priorities with other sports. We are supportive of this. However, we do ask that our athletes attend at least 2 of the 3 scheduled practices.

How do I register my child?

Please visit our Registration page to register your child.

Is there a fee associated with playing for the team?

There is a $150 registration fee. Fees go to supporting the program’s ability to cover costs associated with insurance, equipment, uniforms, league and official fees.

We understand that registration fees can be a barrier for some families, but we want everyone to participate. If the cost is a concern, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We’re here to help, and have options available. All inquiries will be handled privately and respectfully.

How will communications be handled between coaches, players and parents during the upcoming season?

We are planning on using TeamBot to facilitate communications with all parties. As part of the registration process, we will set up parents and players in the app.
