Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common questions and answers about the BC STL Junior Football Program.

Is football experience required?

No previous football playing experience is required. Our purpose is to provide an opportunity for middle school athletes from Clayton and Brentwood school districts to learn the fundamentals of football, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship while promoting physical fitness and a sense of community. We will teach your child everything  they need to know to be successful. We only require regular attendance, a positive attitude, and willingness to work hard.

What equipment do we need to provide?

Players are responsible for shoes/cleats, a mouthpiece, and a pair of white and a pair of black football pants with integrated pads. All other equipment- helmet, shoulder pads, practice and game jerseys, will be provided by the cooperating school districts. Many of our players choose to purchase individualized equipment like receiver gloves, undershirts, and girdles, but those items are completely optional.

How many levels of play will there be?

Along with Webster Groves we will field 4 teams – one for each grade 5th through 8th grade. There will be a full schedule of games for each grade level. Any 4th graders who want to play can participate on the 5th grade team as well. All grade levels will practice together, however, we will NOT put any of our athletes in a position where they are not set up for success.

Who will we be playing games against and how many games will we have?

We will compete in the Park-Rock league and will have a full schedule of games for each team 5th-8th grade. Games are typically played on Saturday mornings or afternoons. The full Park-Rock schedule will be released in August.

What is the upcoming schedule for the spring and summer months?

What are the expectations for practices during the school year?

Practices are extremely important for our athletes to learn the game, get used to contact and understand our playbook. We recognize that there are competing priorities with other sports and activities and are supportive of this, however, we do ask that our athletes attend the 2 scheduled practices each week.

How do I register my child?

Please visit our Registration page to register your child.

Is there a fee associated with playing for the team?

There is a $150 registration fee. Fees go to supporting the program’s ability to cover costs associated with insurance, equipment, uniforms, league and official fees.

However, we want everyone to be able to participate, and we understand that registration fees can be a barrier for some families. If the cost is a concern, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us — we’re here to help and have options available. All inquiries will be handled privately and respectfully.

How will communications be handled between coaches, players and parents during the upcoming season?

We will use the GroupMe app to facilitate communications with all parties. As part of the registration process, we will set up parents and players on the app.

Interested in helping out?

We need parents for many roles to make this season a success- coaching, helping with equipment, running the scoreboard and game clock, holding the first down markers, and so much more. If you have interest in helping coach or volunteer in any capacity, reach out to us.
